Helene and her husband were so kind. Touring us around their vineyard, showing us how to prepare the plants over the winter (and allowing us to try) and explaining the spring and summer work involved in harvesting. They then invited us into to their home and we sampled the lovely champagne. They were so friendly and answered all of our many questions. Helene also recommended some other local places and things for us to check out. We really enjoyed out visit! We visited Helene in her vineyards and then had an incredible tasting of these beautiful Champagnes. Helene was a gracious host who seemed so excited to share her clear passion for the vines and the process of making champagne. The tasting experience was lovely, meeting both Helene and her husband. We were thrilled to bring some bottles home to enjoy during the remainder of our trip. Having just landed from Canada, we could not have imagined a better introduction to Champagne! What a stroke of luck that our week-long journey along France's Champagne and wine route began with a visit to Champagne Hélène Monleau! It was an unforgettable experience! Helen is a true professional not only in producing the highest quality champagne, but also in the art of describing the process itself, from the history of the place itself to the look of the bubbles in the glass. In this warm atmosphere, we felt like long-time friends. The most striking thing about Helen is that she simply glows with happiness when she does her job and talks about it, and this happiness permeates all the champagne we tasted. You couldn't resist buying a few bottles of this magic! We would highly recommend this place!! Even after a long day of harvesting grapes, Hélène and her husband welcomed us at her home for a small champagne tasting. It is clear that they love what they do and prioritize quality over quantity. Their 4 champagnes are unique and very tasty, and they also have 100% chardonnay champagne. We also loved that they are passionate about biodiversity and their clever biological solutions to avoid pesticide use. Thank you very much! I had a highly educational and very enjoyable time in experiencing this Champagne Hélène Monleau vineyard tour and tasting. First of all, it was wonderful to have the tour given by Hélène herself! This is a benefit, I suppose, of the relatively smaller size of a family-owned and -operated vineyard. Hélène was extremely informative – including her responses to any questions that I had – in explaining all phases, year-round, of the carefully executed, often labor-intensive processes she and Philippe engage in to make their wonderful champagnes. Hélène’s explanations included how some of their processes, though labor intensive, can achieve a higher quality product, and how various of their processes have an added benefit of being more sustainable (for the soil, etc.) and otherwise environmentally friendly than processes often used in larger operations. With her clear explanations of the details and reasons for each process, and with these explanations interwoven with her overviews of the entire operation as well as contextual information regarding champagne-making in this region and the French wine industry generally, Hélène greatly increased my knowledge of many things wine-related in a brief period of time. In addition, the tasting was most enjoyable and was enhanced by further explanations. I enjoyed all of the champagnes that I tasted, including the one named “L’Audace.” In conclusion, I highly recommend the Champagne Hélène Monleau vineyard tour and tasting.
